The conference has followed by defection of Three Scottish Green councillors to Your Party and speech by Your Party co-leader Zarah Sultana MP. She endorsed a second Scottish independence referendum, and called to continue solidarity with Palestine.
The first Scottish rally of the new party at Maryhill community hall was attended by left-wing activists across Scotland. The main panellists were Frances Curran, Stella Small, Bridget Crossan and Bryan Simpson.
Councillor Dan Hutchison confirmed his defection at the rally and endorsed Your Party for next May's Holyrood election. Thereby, Hutchison, Seonad Hoy and Leodhas Massie have become Your Party's first elected representatives in Scotland. The Govan Ward representative of Glasgow City Council, Dan Hutchison said Green MSPs "have their heads deep in the sand".
He added:
"I'm proud to be joining a truly socialist party who will not accept the status quo, will actually involve ordinary people in the politics that impacts their lives, and won't be accepting brutal cuts in exchange for scraps off the table."
Zarah Sultana’s speech concluded the rally. She expressed her support for a second Scottish independence referendum, saying:
“Our Scottish members will choose our path. Your Party is the only party that would actually deliver independence with socialism at its heart.”
Sultana promised to establish the new party as a grassroots movement, with internal-party democracy. The Your Party co-leader says they will build a new socialist economy if elected into government and manifested her aim to leave NATO and abolish the UK's nuclear weapons. She called to continue the campaign for free a free Palestine, whilst condemning Israel, and supporting the use of sanctions on its goods and arms.
The Edinburgh Economist co-editor, Bohdan Tymoshchuk spoke with Zarah Sultana MP about a possible rally in Edinburgh, and her stance on Russia's invasion of Ukraine:
